A note from Your senior pastor

YOU ARE WELCOME HERE...

NO MATTER WHAT

  • You are welcome if you are a member of this church, or a member of not-much-of-anything.
  • You are welcome if you have a lot of hang-ups, if you have made a lot of mistakes, or if you have always had your act together.
  • You are welcome if you have a lot of money, or if you can’t make your car payment.
  • You are welcome if you drank too much last night, or if alcohol has never touched your lips.
  • You are welcome if you are using, or if you are clean.
  • You are welcome if you are nice or just plain mean.
  • You are welcome if you have caused a lot of pain, or if you have been hurt by someone you trust.
  • You are welcome if you are happily married, blissfully single, or if you have been through a messy divorce.
  • You are welcome if you have children, or no children at all.
  • You are welcome if you can sing like an angel or if you can’t carry a tune in a bucket.
  • You are welcome if you have never read the Bible, or if you memorize verses every day.
  • You are welcome if you have not been to church since you were a child, or if you are here every time the door is open.
  • You are welcome if you can’t stand church folks or if you are a “church folk.”
  • You are welcome if you have a bone to pick with God or if Jesus is your best friend.
  • You are welcome if you are a sinner or a saint, or a little bit of both.

You are welcome here.

OUR MOST CHERISHED BELIEF...

NO MATTER WHAT

Our most cherished belief is that God’s grace, through Jesus Christ our Lord, is available to ALL persons…

NO MATTER WHAT.

Methodists have a radical theology of grace...

  • We believe God’s grace is available in ALL persons in a prevenient way – the grace that compels us to come to Christ before we are even aware of it.
  • In justifying grace, we are proclaimed “not guilty” by God when we have opened our heart and mind to the Savior.
  • In sanctifying grace God continues to call us to grow in our faith and in our Christian living. The most visible example of this “radical grace” is that we practice “Open” Communion at the Lord’s Table, inviting ALL who will to partake of this Holy Sacrament. Judging the worthiness of others is above our pay grade.

Gardendale Mount Vernon UMC invites YOU to participate in God’s radical grace through a personal profession of faith in Jesus, baptism and the Lord’s Supper, worship, fellowship, outreach, study, and prayer. We are committed to being the hands, feet, heart, and voice of Jesus to our community and our world.

OUR MISSION

The mission of our church is simply put in three short, but packed, statements:

  • Love God (worship)
  • Love Others (growth)
  • Serve the world (missions)

Everything we do here at GMV falls under at least one of these three statements.
